Birth (Natal) Chart Basics

WHAT IS A BIRTH CHART?

A birth chart or often referred to as a Natal Chart is what we at Intentions with Whitney call your spiritual blueprint. Scientifically a Birth Chart shows exactly where the planets were around the sun at the time of your birth... Now this goes far beyond the time of just your birth. Birth Charts are created for pets, children, marriages, business, etc. For this material, I’ll stick to the simple Birth Charts for us as individuals.

A Birth Chart reveals so much about you. As we mentioned this is literally your spiritual blueprint. In your chart you will notice planets on the astrological wheel. Each of these planets have a specific energy, function, and dare we say … personality haha, but it’s true. The place in which each planet sits or hangs out is called a house. There are 12 houses on the astrological wheel which highlight different areas of our lives, and possible events or energy surrounding those topics / areas of focus.

By downloading our birth charts, we start the beautiful relationship between ourselves and the stars. Understanding and learning astrology (the language of the Cosmos, as we call it) helps us to explore the depths of our souls. It helps us to reawaken to the truth of who we really are, and who we were created to be.

YOUR LIFE IS NOT A MISTAKE. YOUR UNQUINESS IS NOT A CURSE. YOU WERE PERFECTLY AND DIVINELY CREATED.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR YOUR DESTINY, YOUR PERSONAL PATH IN LIFE THIS CHART IS WHAT YOU NEED!

To Recap a Birth Chart can show:

And so much more!

THE MAIN POINTS TO LOOK AT WHEN YOU BEGIN LOOKING INTO YOUR CHART

The location of the Sun.

The location of the Moon.

The beginning part of your chart. The ascendant otherwise known as your Rising sign.

These are the topics most covered by astrologers online, however, your chart does go much deeper than these 3 energies. While your chart does go deeper there’s more to these 3 energies that are quite influential which is why it is important to start with these. To cover the basics, let’s go over the sun, moon, and your ascendant.

The sun is your ego. It is the sign you were born into. It represents our basic identity, self-expression, and vitality. Your unaltered authentic personality, at the core.

The moon is the ruler of our emotional life. It represents our basic needs, and our unconscious emotional reactions to people, places, and things. It is associated with feminine energy and can show us where we would feel most secure in our charts.

Our Ascendant also known as our rising sign is how we show up in the world. This represents our outward social personality, the way people see us, as well as the way we view the world. This placement is very important as it begins the start of your birth chart. Not all people have the same Rising and Sun sign, so it is very important to take account of this placement as it guides the way of your astrological blueprint.

As stated earlier these are not the only placements you will see in your chart you will also come across a variety of other energies that include, but are not limited to:

The various planets: The Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto. You will also see planetary influences such as Chiron, Lilith, and depending on the type of astrology possibly many more. All these planets as mentioned, have energies and influences.
